The International Society of Caricature Artists has a forum and there was a week long challenge to do Christian Bale caricatures. This is mine.
Last evening Bob East and I drove down to Louisville, KY for an event for Makers Mark arranged by GoofyFaces. There were six caricaturists there and the mission was to draw faces on the bottles of whiskey sold for charity.
This was the label onto which we were to draw.
Not a lot of room! But manageable with the proper marker.
I can’t speak for the other artists, but I drew more people from cell phone photos than people who bought the bottles!
The coaches of UK & UL.
Posting some of last weeks figure drawings slipped my mind so here are a few from last week and tonight;
Someone is retiring and looking forward to being a beach bum with hot rods!
Last night, after an absence of too long, I returned to a life drawing session. This time at the Herron School of Art Alumni Tuesday night drawing session. It meets from 7PM to 10PM and is open to Herron alumni and other artists, like me, who did not graduated or attend Herron. The session started with two minute warm-up poses, then five minute poses, on up to 22 minute poses. My eyes started to protest right after 9 (I had been drawing all day in the studio) so they may have gone on to longer poses during the last hour. Greg, the moderator, orchestrated the session in what was, to me, a unique and highly effective fashion. He had recorded the entire three hours as a podcast on a laptop. Each pose and the intervening breaks were announced with background music playing throughout. Very effective!
Since this was my first outing in far too long I’m only going to show you the last three drawings, which turned out to my satisfaction. Excellent model by the way.
Last Saturday I drove down to Louisville, KY for the second Derby City Comic Convention to draw superhero theme caricatures for the guests.
This was my table set up,

These guys were repeats from last year but in new costumes, Beast Boy and Han Solo,
The Dad of this young Time Lord requested the 10th Doctor knowing it would please his Mom,
This couple had toured the show, left, saw my van in the parking garage, came back and asked for Popeye and Wonder Woman,
This young man surprised me when he asked for “the original Green Lantern” judging from his age I thought he meant Hal Jordan but he wanted Alan Scott, the true original GL. (And not the reboot currently being reintroduced.) A reminder to me not to assume anything!
This one was from a photo. A guy ditched his friends to go to a local NASCAR race instead of the comic show, they wanted something NASCAR themed.
A request for Doctor Octopus,
Mystique of the X-Men (comic book version),
And Black Canary, (Silver Age version),
